Private agencies are free to set whatever rates they wish. Local authorities (LAs) must pay you in accordance with the statutory arrangements for teachers laid down in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document. The statutory pay scales for teachers are expressed in terms of annual salary and supply teachers should be paid on a daily basis calculated on the assumption that a full working year consists of 195 days. The Government recommends that any rates be based on a 6.5 hour day (including an allowance for non-teaching duties) but this is not legally binding. You will be entitled to one extra point on the main classroom teachers' pay scale if you work 26 weeks in any school year. The 26 weeks do not have to run consecutively and do not all have to be served at the same school. If this is not what you are looking for or if you want more information you can contact the Department by email at info@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk or telephone on 0870 000 2288.
